Their home contents insurance provides up to £40,000 cover for contents, automatic
old for new on most items, legal cover and accidental damage on non-portable items.
Their buildings insurance provides unlimited rebuilding costs, accidental damage
cover and a 24-hour emergency cover and helpline.
They also offer up to 30 per cent no-claims bonus and could offer further premium
reductions if your home is fitted with approved security devices and smoke alarms.
What you should know
Tedious as it might be, you always need to know what’s in the small print.
Home contents:
- The first £50 of each accident or loss is not covered.
- You can add on additional cover so that you’re insured against accidental damage
and loss, you can further extend this cover to include valuables and personal belongings
and they will be covered wherever they are in the world.
- Loss or damage is not covered if your home is lent, let, sub-let or shared unless
there’s forcible entry.
Buildings:
- There is an excess of £50 on each claim that you make. You can reduce future premium
payments by agreeing to pay more than this.
- You’re not insured for loss or damaged caused by your pets.
- If your home cannot be lived in because of any covered reasons, they will provide
you will cover the reasonable cost of alternative accommodation.
- Buildings insurance doesn’t cover the contents of your home.
Anything else?
Because the AA works as a brokerage, looking at multiple quotes across the market
to find you the best price, rather than underwriting the insurance themselves you

Before taking out any insurance check whether or not you already have cover. If
